How and when to make a claim with GGFi

HOMEOWNER’S GUIDE TO MAKING A CLAIM WITH GGFi

If you have a warranty insurance policy with GGFi and the company who carried out the work on your property is no longer trading, it may well be possible for you to make a claim with GGFi for any issues you may be experiencing with the installation.

Before contacting us however, please read this guide to the claims procedure as it contains very useful advice as to how the process works and what will be required from the policy holder in the event of making a claim.

WARRANTIES/GUARANTEES

  • 1. What can I claim for?
    • GGFi provides insurance on the warranty/guarantee provided it to you by the installing company upon completion of the works – our insurance replicates precisely the terms of cover laid out in this installer’s guarantee. It is important to note that anything not covered by the installer’s written guarantee is not claimable under the terms of the insurance policy.

  • 2. When can I claim?
    • If you have issues with the installation work that would normally be resolved under the terms of the installer’s written guarantee, you can claim with GGFi if the installer has ceased to trade due to one of the following reasons:

      • Liquidation
      • Administration
      • Bankruptcy
      • Receivership
      • The death of ALL principal directors of the busines

In keeping with the industry, GGFi insurance policies do not cover instances whereby the installer has retired or simply dissolves the business.

Important – Credit-Cards – If you originally paid for your installation with a credit-card then it will not be possible for GGFi to process a claim. In accordance with the Consumer Credit Act, the GGFi insurance policy is superseded by the credit-card insurance policy. In such circumstances, you will need to contact your credit-card provider to discuss your claim.

  • 3. What do I need to provide in order to claim?
    • In the event that you wish to proceed with a claim, the first step is to request a claims form from GGFi – a blank form can be downloadedHERE, alternatively you can contact us on claims@ggfi.org.uk to request a claims form.

Once this is received, you will then need to send this back into us fully completed together with the following documentation:

      • A copy of your GGFi insurance policy certificate
      • A copy of the written guarantee provided to you by the original installer
      • Proof of payment for the original installation
      • Three quotes to rectify the installation issues from installation companies

Once this documentation has been received by GGFi, we can then begin processing the claim.

  • 4. What happens next?
    • Assuming the claim is valid, we will then appoint one of the contractors who has quoted for this work to carry out the rectification works. Once this has taken place, assuming you are satisfied with the outcome, we will then pay out to the company up to the value of their quote or the policy limit, whichever is the lesser.

DEPOSITS

If you have paid a deposit to a company, the deposit has been registered with GGFi and they have ceased to trade, it is possible for you to claim this back through GGFi’s deposit protection scheme.

  • 1. When can I claim?
    • If you have been provided with a GGFi Deposit Protection slip and returned it to us, your deposit will be logged with GGFi and thus you will be able to claim this from GGFi in the event of the installer ceasing to trade due to one of the following reasons:

      • Liquidation
      • Administration
      • Bankruptcy
      • Receivership
      • The death of ALL principal directors of the business

In keeping with the industry, GGFi insurance policies do not cover instances whereby the installer has retired or simply dissolves the business.

Please note that the deposit cover is only valid for a 90 day period from the date that the deposit has been paid.

Important – Credit-Cards – If you originally paid for your deposit with a credit-card then it will not be possible for GGFi to process a claim. In accordance with the Consumer Credit Act, the GGFi insurance policy is superseded by the credit-card insurance policy. In such circumstances, you will need to contact your credit-card provider to discuss your claim.
